For Practice Readiness Assessments
Acceptable sponsors:
Alberta Health Services (AHS)
Covenant Health
Corporate clinic entity in Alberta
Private clinic in Alberta
Primary Care Network in Alberta
Physician registered with the College and in active independent practice in Alberta
Other entity acceptable to the RegistrarÂ
Sponsor must be recruiting the applicant to a defined practice position.
Sponsor must sign or have signed an agreement with the College, which outlines related responsibilities and costs associated with practice readiness assessments in Alberta.
If the sponsor organization is not AHS, it must request (in writing) a letter of support from the Medical Director of the Zone where the applicant intends to practice.
AHS requires the request for a letter of support to include the following information:
Name of sponsor
Contact information for sponsor
Name of applicant to be assessed
Up-to-date applicant curriculum vitae
A clearly defined scope of practice for the applicant to include:
Practice location (geographic locale)
Clinic name and location
Description of clinic
Practice description (family practice, other specialty discipline, office only, hospital privileges, emergency, etc.)
Patient population to be seen
Unique services the applicant will provide (when appropriate)
Types of procedures applicant will perform
If AHS provides a letter of support for the recruitment, a copy needs to be provided to the College.
If the applicant is not successful on the assessment, neither the College, the sponsor nor AHS is responsible for providing the applicant with training.
If the applicant is not successful on the assessment a practice permit will not be granted by the College without further application.
An organized assessment:
has a sponsor
has a letter of support from AHS
is arranged and approved by the College
Information from the Provincial Physician Assessment Program (PPAP)
The Registration department will notify PPAP of the applicant’s need for a practice readiness assessment.
Neither the applicant nor the sponsor should contact PPAP to request details of the assessment until PPAP formally notifies him or her that an assessment file exists.
An assessment file will be opened within 10 business days. PPAP will then contact the applicant and sponsor to outline the next steps.
