Overview
Practice readiness assessments determine whether applicants are ready to enter independent practice in Alberta.
To qualify for an assessment, an applicant must first apply for a practice permit through the College's Registration department. If the applicant does not meet the full requirements of the General Register, he or she will be referred to the College's Provincial Physicians Assessment Program (PPAP).
PPAP will administer a practice readiness assessment of the applicant's clinical knowledge and skills, which the applicant must successfully pass before being eligible for a practice permit on the Provisional Register. Practice readiness assessments are not training experiences; failing any component of an assessment will result in denial of a practice permit.
Practice readiness assessments involve two components:
All applicants undergoing a practice readiness assessment require a sponsor.
