Assessment and Competency Enhancement (ACE)

Change of Scope of Practice Assessments

A physician who intends to substantially change his or her medical practice by adding medical services he or she has not provided frequently or continuously over the previous three years must notify the College (Standard of Practice 02).

The physician must provide documentation of his or her training, experience and/or competence to perform the proposed change in medical services.

The Assessment and Competency Enhancement (ACE) department reviews the physician’s request and determines, at the discretion of the Registrar, whether the physician needs to complete an assessment and any required training. The ACE department makes related arrangements for the assessment and training, and the physician is responsible for the associated costs.

The ACE department approves the initiation of a physician's change of scope after he or she successfully completes the assessment and training.
