Temporary Activity, not including locums

Temporary registration on the Courtesy Register is available to physicians and osteopaths who will be practicing medicine in Alberta on a temporary basis during a specific medical instructional, medical learning, or clinical activity.

Note: This information is not for postgraduate training (including electives, fellowships and residency programs). For information regarding postgraduate training please contact RegistrationPGT@cpsa.ab.ca or 780-969-5021. 

The three scenarios for which temporary registration is available and the links to the application instructions are outlined below:

  • Visiting Medical Instructor:  in Alberta for up to 30 days in a calendar year to provide medical instruction or demonstration involving direct patient contact.  
  • Visiting Medical Learner:  in Alberta for up to 90 days in a calendar year to receive medical instruction which may involve direct patient contact.  
  • Visiting Clinician:  in Alberta for up to 30 days in a calendar year to provide medical services, which may require the authority to write prescriptions and/or order diagnostic tests, during a specified event.  Physicians who attend only non-Albertan members of a contingent with whom they travel do not require registration (i.e. sports teams, travel groups, etc)
