Applying for a practice permit under the Health Professions Act (HPA)

Family physicians and specialists who want to practise independently in Alberta must obtain an Alberta medical practice permit in order to:

  • Diagnose and treat patients
  • Order investigations
  • Write prescriptions

 

NOTE:  Physicians who have been out of formal postgraduate training or independent practice for three or more years must provide evidence of currency in practice or training before being considered for eligibility to apply for a practice permit.
