Physician Approvals
Physicians must be registered with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta to practise medicine in Alberta. Physicians also require additional approval to provide certain services in accredited facilities. Applications are approved by committee or by the Registrar of the College, and are processed through the College's Quality of Care department.

Services Not Requiring Approval
| Other procedures like the use of lasers* and Botox® are not restricted to accredited facilities and do not require specific approval from the CPSA. However, physicians are expected to use their best judgment in limiting their services to those for which their training meets or exceeds the commonly accepted standard of practice in the medical community. *Note – Lasers must be registered as they are a designated Radiation Emitting Device under Alberta’s Radiation Protection Act. The CPSA is the administrative organization with responsibility for registering lasers for medical use in Alberta. That process requires a safety review by an Accredited Radiation Protection Agency and submission of a compliance report to the College before a registration certificate is issued. |
