Managing Disruptive Behavior in the Healthcare Workplace

In collaboration with related organizations, the College developed a comprehensive guidance document and toolkit to help fairly and effectively address cases of disruptive behavior* by physicians in the healthcare workplace. It’s recognized that behavior of this type by physicians is rare, however, the impact on the quality of care provided to patients, patient safety and employee morale can be significant.

Although the focus of this initiative is physicians, the information can also be adapted for use for other healthcare providers.

*Disruptive behavior can be passive or aggressive in its approach, and may include objectionable language, uncontrolled anger and verbal and physical threats.
