Dr. Nohr graduated from McGill University in 1978, trained in General Surgery and Transplantation, and received a PhD in 1989. As an academic surgeon at McGill University, he worked in clinical programs, teaching, research and administration, as the Director of Transplantation, and Director of the McGill Core Surgery Training Program. He received an award for Excellence in Teaching, authored or co-authored 47 publications, and served on hospital and University committees, including Ethics, Informatics, Admissions, Resident Promotions, and Post-Graduate Education.
In 1995, he moved to Medicine Hat, where he operates a private office with a full time clinical practice in General Surgery. He has served as Regional Chief of Surgery, President of the Regional Medical Staff Association, on Alberta Medical Association committees, and on a Subcommittee of the College’s Physician Achievement Review (PAR) Program. He has completed the full cycle of the Physician Manager Institute courses of the Canadian Medical Association.
His desire is to contribute to change management as it relates to health legislation and College policy, particularly from the perspective of physician health and engagement. His core values are integrity, effectiveness and fairness. His background has provided an understanding of front line medical work, and a level of empathy with physicians in both academic and private practice.
