Committees

College committees provide policy advice to the Council and help guide the operation of College programs and services. Committees are comprised of Council members, as well as physician and/or public representatives with specific expertise.

Competence Committee

A standing committee of Council authorized under the Health Professions Act to provide for the review, investigation and assessment of the competence of members and to make recommendations to Council on continuing competence requirements. This committee oversees the Physician Achievement Review (PAR) program, requirements for continuing professional development and the monitoring and assessment of the competence of regulated members.
Medical Informatics

Provides advice to the profession on the responsible use of Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) in medical practice. See EMRs and Physicians.
Finance & Audit

Deals with finance issues related to governance of the College such as the annual budget, investment portfolio and pension statements.
Infection Prevention and Control

Advises College Council regarding infection prevention and control issues in physician's offices.
Physician Health Monitoring

A subcommittee of the Competence Committee. Provides advice and direction to the Physician Wellness department as it pertains to the mangement of physicians whose health issues impact practice. Reports to College Council through the Competence Committee.
Physician Prescribing Practices Committee

A subcommittee of the Competence Committee. Provides advice and direction to the Physician Prescribing Practices program and reports through the Competence Committee to College Council on issues relating to physicians' prescribing practices.
Medical Facility Accreditation

Advises College Council on the appropriate standards for accredited medical facilities, provides physician approvals for diagnostic imaging and oversees the accreditation of facilities.
Physician Performance

Responsible for overseeing the College's Physician Achievement Review (PAR) program.
Executive

Responsible for setting Council agenda, and for directing the business of College Council between Council meetings based on provincial legislation and College bylaws. This committee also reviews the performance of the College Registrar.
Complaint Review Committee

Reviews dismissed complaints at the request of the complainant. The complainant has 30 days after the complaint is dismissed to request a review. The committee, made up of two physicians nominated by College Council and one public member from a government list, reviews the investigation report and the decision to dismiss. The committee may confirm dismissal of the complaint, send the matter to hearing, or direct the Complaints Director to investigate further and prepare a report for consideration by the committee.
Nominating

Nominates Certificate of Merit recipients, and recommends individuals for membership on College council committees.
TPP Steering Committee

Multi-stakeholder committee that provides advice in the operation of the Triplicate Prescription Program.
PPC Appeal

Deals with physician appeals resulting from the PAR program.
