About Us

Introduction to the College

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) regulates the practice of medicine in Alberta. The privilege of self-regulation is granted through Alberta’s Health Professions Act (HPA).

Our lines of business are listed below. Everything we do is guided by our Mission, Vision & Values, and promotes the achievement of our goals.

  • Register physicians

  • Accredit health facilities

  • Provide clinical review

  • Investigate and resolve physician-related complaints

  • Contribute to public policy affecting health care delivery

  • Guide professional conduct and ethical behavior

Governance and Funding

The College is governed by a Council that includes physicians, public members and representatives from Alberta’s medical schools.

The College Bylaws establish the operating framework for the College.

Funding for the College is provided mainly through physician annual fees, although funding for specific projects may be provided by other organizations or government grants.
